Art Exhibition

The European AIDS Clinical Society (EACS) is throwing a spotlight on the creative work of people living with HIV in a virtual Positive Art Exhibition

We invite Conference delegates to vote for their favourite exhibit. Prizes for the most popular pieces will be announced at the Conference Closing ceremony on October 30 at 13:00 (BST).


  • EACS Award

The EACS Award is handed out in recognition of an individual’s longstanding, impactful and sustained professional contribution to the field of HIV.

It will be awarded during the opening ceremony on Wednesday, October 27 from 17:15-18:45.

  • European Hector Research Award in HIV 2019

The H.W. & J. Hector Foundation, Weinheim, is announcing a prize for European HIV research, which will be awarded for the best scientific achievements in the HIV research area in 2020.

The award for best basic science/translational science will be awarded on Thursday, October 28 at 10:00 during the Plenary session..

The award for best clinical science and/or epidemiological paper will be awarded on Friday, October 29 at 09:25 during the Plenary session.

Art Exhibition

The European AIDS Clinical Society (EACS) is holding an art exhibition featuring work from HIV positive artists during the 18th European AIDS Conference.

Please note: The exhibition will be held online!

An international jury will select artworks to be shown on the EACS Conference’s virtual platform and also on this Website from October 27 to December 31. Conference delegates can then vote for their favourite exhibit. Prizes for the most popular pieces will be announced at the Conference Closing ceremony on October 30 at 13:00 (BST) and thereafter here on the EACS website.

Best Poster Awards

Best Poster Discussions will be held online: Virtual room 1 (online only) on Thursday, October 28, from 12:00 - 13:00 (BST).

Certificate of attendance

After the Conference, you will receive an email inviting you to log onto our platform to download your certificate. You will also be invited to complete our short evaluation survey.

Coffee will be served free of charge in the catering areas in the Exhibition Hall on level 0 to all registered delegates during the following times:

CME credits (Continuing Medical Education)
The 18th European AIDS Conference, has been accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®), with 21 European CME credits (ECMEC®s). Each medical specialist should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.

Through an agreement between the Union Européenne des Médecins Spécialistes and the American Medical Association, physicians may convert EACCME® credits to an equivalent number of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Information on the process to convert EACCME credit to AMA credit can be found at www.ama-assn.org/go/internationalcme.

Live educational activities, occurring outside of Canada, recognised by the UEMS-EACCME® for ECMEC®s are deemed to be Accredited Group Learning Activities (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

A community & networking area can be found in the exhibition hall. There you will find electricity connections to charge electronic devices. It is also a space to connect with other delegates. SPECIAL THIS YEAR will be Pechuka Style Presentations held on Thursday and Friday within the Community Area.

The Community & Networking area´s programme is managed by theEATG.

Conference opening

The Conference Opening will take place in Hall S11 on Wednesday, October 27, from 17:45 - 18:45 (BST). All registered delegates are invited to attend this event.

EACS Guidelines v11.0

Version 11.0 of the EACS Treatment Guidelines has been launched on day 1 of the Conference!

The Guidelines are also available as a mobile app, downloadable on the Apple Store and Google Play.

EACS pre-educational course

The EACS Pre-Educational Course will take place on Wednesday, October 27, 09:30 - 15:30, Capital Suite 12, Level 3 (onsite and online). It is aimed primarily at students, doctors in training or those at an early stage of their career, although all are welcome. A combination of short lectures and case-based teaching from speakers across Europe will cover the following topics:

  • SARS CoV-2 vaccines – Efficacy, concerns, adverse events
  • EACS Live Journal Club - COVID and HIV
  • Inflammation in HIV – What does it mean and how do we measure it?
  • Heart failure, new drugs, DDIs,
  • Dermatological malignancies: Updates in management, assoc. w HIV etc
  • Women and breastfeeding: Update on data, how to include women of child bearing age in research

Registration is mandatory and organised through the conference registration, on a first-come, first-served basis and is free of charge.

Exhibition hall
Conference delegates are invited to visit the exhibition hall which will feature commercial exhibitors and non-commercial HIV organisations. It will be open during the following times:

An e-Poster is an electronic version of the traditional paper poster which is displayed on computers. Delegates will be able to consult the e-Posters by using one of the computers in the e-Poster area located in the Exhibition Hall.

A specific e-Poster can be viewed during the Conference. It can also be considered through the digital conference platform. An ePoster may also be shared if the author has previously accepted that it be shared. The ePosters remains available on the digital conference platform until November 30, then on the EACS Resource Library for the EACS members.

Food and beverage

Catering areas, with items for sale, will be at your disposal within the exhibition hall during the exhibition opening hours.

Film, photo and video recording
EACS and K.I.T. Group work together to create a comprehensive overview of the conference interactions and events which may be of promotional interest to the Society. Accordingly, please be advised that you may be filmed or photographed at any time (in the session rooms, ePosters area, etc.).

First aid
You can approach any of our team who can help you with a medical emergency or go to level 0 on the boulevard and down the stairs by N4/S4.

Hand sanitisers
Hand sanitisers are located throughout the conference venue.

HIV Self-Testing & Prevention area   

Located in the exhibition hall, and designed by EACS for the community, this area aims to provide more information about self-testing and prevention.

Insurance and liability
The Conference Organiser (European AIDS Clinical Society (EACS)), the EACS Conference Secretariat and the Congress Center Basel shall not be held liable for personal injury or any loss or damage to the belongings of conference delegates, either during or as a result of the Conference. Please check the validity of your own insurance to cover loss incurred in the event of cancellation, medical expenses, or damage to or loss of personal effects. EACS cannot be held liable for any hindrance or disruption of the European AIDS Conference proceedings arising from natural, political, social or economic events or other unforeseen incidents beyond its control.

Name badge
A name badge is required for admittance to all official conference sessions and events. Each delegate is required to present the badge to access the Conference. The name badge must be clearly displayed. If an attendee loses, misplaces or forgets their name badge, a handling fee of EUR50 will be charged for a new badge and the lost badge will be invalidated.

People with disabilities
The Excel London is fully accessible to conference participants with disabilities.

Invited speakers and oral abstract presenters must report to the Speaker Preview Room at least three hours prior to their presentation to upload and check their presentation. For a morning presentation, please report to the Speaker Preview Room the day before up until 18:30.

WAVE - Women Against Viruses in Europe
The EACS WAVE workshop promoting the welfare of HIV-positive women in Europe will take place on October 27, 2021, from 10:00 to 12:30 in Hall S11 on Level 1. The workshop is intended for healthcare professionals and community representatives with interest in promoting equality of access to care, Excellence in standard of care, and delivering targeted educational programmes. The course is free of charge for anyone interested. Registration is compulsory and is on a first-come, first-served basis.

All scientific sessions will be available as webcasts. This service will be available directly after the Conference on the EACS Resource Library. For more information, please click here.

Welcome reception                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    The Welcome Reception will follow after the Opening Ceremony and will take place in the Exhibition Hall on Wednesday, 18:45 – 20:00.
